Welcome to the European Society of Cardiology. Our mission: to reduce the burden of cardiovascular disease in Europe

Acute Cardiac Care

Created to foster the scientific and educational activities among the cardiological community in the field of acute cardiac care, the most challenging field of cardiology.

ESC Working Group on Acute Cardiac Care Logo

Prof. Nicolas Danchin FESC, Chairman Acute heart failure, acute coronary syndromes, life-threatening arrhythmias and pulmonary embolisms are only some of the diseases we cope with: our aim is to contribute to the advance of knowledge in these fields, to educate physicians and nurses on the best strategies of treatment and to improve the outcome of our patients in the Intensive Cardiac Care Units (ICCUs).

To that end, we run several educational programmes, both in-house and extramural, we organise a biannual scientific congress (last one was held in Versailles - October 2008), we are going to run clinical trials as well as outcome research on these subjects, and we take part in the ESC ACS Registry, launched in November 2006.

New contributors are more than welcome to participate to our numerous activities. Please visit our website, the home of ACC community in Europe.

We look forward to welcoming you among our members,

Prof. Nicolas Danchin FESC, Chairman

New ESC Guidelines for Myocardial Revascularisation

This guideline, jointly developed by the ESC and the European Association for Cardio-Thoracic Surgery (EACTS), is a reflection of the importance of a team approach in patient selection and management. It provide recommendations for the diagnosis and performance of revascularisation according to anatomy and clinical presentation.

The document also gives guidance on medical therapy, especially the anti-thrombotic  therapy which accompanies revascularisation, as well as recommendations about the organisation of PCI centres and patient information.
