Objectives

Update on the 1998 Review on “How to Diagnose Diastolic Heart Failure ?”

This update should address the following issues:

• For the diagnosis of diastolic heart failure

- Use of NT-proBNP, BNP
- Use of MRI
- Use of Tissue Doppler

• For the pathophysiology

- Diastolic heart failure vs. deranged ventriculo-arterial coupling
- Left atrial dynamics
- Histology of the myocardium in diastolic failure
- Role of subtle systolic dysfunction

• For therapy

- Conception of trials using stringent recruitment criteria
