Requirements
- Theoretical part: written exam provided in 5 languages (English, French, Italian, German and Spanish). For exam questionnaire in English, a glossary is provided.
- Practical part: log book section.
Certification for AP will require only the written exam. However a certification of pratical experience is also available (Cf. paragraph 'Examination', section 2).
Examination
1- The theoretical examination: the written exam
It is compiled by the EHRA Certification Committee for AP, and consists of a 130 multiple-choice questions.
Answers are to be filled in on a mark sheet.
Questions are based on the analysis of practical clinical cases and decision making (60-80%), with the remaining dedicated to theoretical questions.
10 questions out of the 130 are back up questions and are used only for internal processes.
The pass mark is based on 120 questions and is calculated on 75% of the 5 best scores and must be above 60% of the questions. In case the number of candidates is below thirty (30) the passing score will be calculated on 75% of the best three (3) scores, and must be superior to 60% of the questions.
There is no appeal procedure after the examination.
The examination is designed to be completed in two (2) consecutive parts of 3 hours each, with a 60 minutes lunch break:
- 9:00 - 12:00: 1st part
- 12:00 - 13:00: Lunch break (lunch is provided by EHRA)
- 13:00 - 16:00: 2nd part*

Participants are required to sign in at least 30 minutes before the start, photo IDs will be checked.
Participants will have to sign out the registration list upon handing out their copy (for both parts).
Exam results are sent within 2 months after the examination, by email.
Upon successful completion of the exam, candidates will receive an EHRA Certificate valid for 10 years.
2- Logbook section
Certification for AP will require only the written exam
However, an additional certification of practical experience is offered. Practical experience should be documented in a log book section.
Within a period of 1 year sitting the exam, candidates have to be involved (not necessitating hands on) in 30 device implantations, among those at least 10 CRT/ICD and 100 device follow-up among those 50PM, 20 ICD, 30 CRT
The logbook will include more details of the follow-up procedures
The logbook must be sent through an electronic platform: the eLogbook. Access to the eLogbook platform is granted to the candidate upon passing the exam only.
Logbooks are graded by the EHRA Certification Committee members, and final results are sent by email.
Upon successful completion of the logbook process, candidates will receive an EHRA Certificate valid for 10 years.
