Dear members of the WG on Atherosclerosis and Vascular Biology,

As spring is in the air and our research teams are in full productivity mode, we are proud to highlight this month's most noteworthy papers in our newsletter, each offering invaluable insights into the multifaceted world of atherosclerosis research. These papers, meticulously curated by leading experts in the field, serve as a testament to the depth and breadth of scientific inquiry within our community.

From microplastics that end up in atherosclerotic plaques and aggravate the disease (doi: 10.1056/NEJMoa2309822), to novel insights into sphingolipid metabolism and endothelial function in coronary artery disease (doi: 10.1161/CIRCRESAHA.123.323826), in-depth insights into the role of TREM2+ macrophages in atherosclerosis (doi: 10.1038/s44161-024-00429-9), to insights on how atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease is spreading and being controlled in Africa (doi: 10.1093/cvr/cvad173), these articles are a must-read for anyone seeking to stay at the forefront of cardiovascular science.

Other recommended reading from our team include:

Predicting Lipid-rich plaque progression in coronary arteries using multimodal imaging and wall shear stress signatures (doi: 10.1161/ATVBAHA.123.320337).

Smooth muscle cell-specific matrix metalloproteinase 3 deletion reduces osteogenic transformation and medial artery calcification (doi: 10.1093/cvr/cvae035).

High-dimensional single-cell multimodal landscape of human carotid atherosclerosis (doi: 10.1161/ATVBAHA.123.320524).

Hallmarks of cardiovascular ageing (doi: 10.1038/s41569-023-00881-3

Tackling inflammation in atherosclerosis (doi: 10.1038/s41569-024-01007-z

Immune and inflammatory mechanisms in hypertension (doi: 10.1038/s41569-023-00964-1
