Euro Heart Survey

The first survey programme initiated by the European Society of Cardiology

These surveys and registries have generated important data on the management of these diseases in clinical practice in Europe. Clinical data on over 100,000 patients have been collected in 35 countries. 70 articles have been published and numerous presentations of the data have been given during ESC Congresses.

While the Heart Failure pilot registry was launched, a new programme of Surveys/Registries, the EURObservational Research Programme, was created.

The original objectives of Euro Heart Survey were:

  • To assess adherence to guidelines for prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular diseases in clinical practice;
  • To assess if patients seen in clinical practice are appropriately represented in clinical trials, on which guidelines are often based;
  • To assess whether differences in practice in hospitals in Europe are reflected in differences in outcome in specific patient groups.
