CARE HF LTFU: Cardiac Resynchronisation in Heart Failure: Long-Term Follow-up

Clinical Trial Update III: Read the report written by the Presenter and the Discussant

The CARE-HF trial, first presented in 2005, established that cardiac resynchronisation therapy (CRT) exerted a striking reduction in mortality in patients with heart failure who had features of dyssynchrony.
There are very few long-term followup data in patients with CRT. This is a report on the long-term outcome of patients in the trial.

The evolving story of iron in heart failure
Cardiologists should recognise the importance of routinely assessing and treating iron deficiency in patients with chronic heart failure (CHF), said the President of the Heart Failure Association of the ESC at a Symposium on Sunday 30 August.

Currently, iron levels are typically investigated only after CHF patients are found to have anaemia.

Acute and Chronic Heart Failure and Focused Update CRT/HF
This is the first focused update on the use of CRT and devices in patients with heart failure.
The specific topics which are highlighted are the management of patients with left ventricular dysfunction but few symptoms, those with atrial fibrillation, and finally patients who already have stimulation in place.

Heart Failure Matters!
With simple changes in lifestyle, a better understanding of heart failure and appropriate treatment, many people live full and active lives. It is time for us to help them take charge of their health.

Heartfailurematters.org is a ground-breaking, educational website for people with heart failure, their families and carers, developed by cardiologists, nurses and primary care physicians from the Heart Failure Association of the ESC.
