CARE HF LTFU: Cardiac Resynchronisation in Heart Failure: Long-Term Follow-up

Clinical Trial Update III: Read the report written by the Presenter and the Discussant

The CARE-HF trial, first presented in 2005, established that cardiac resynchronisation therapy (CRT) exerted a striking reduction in mortality in patients with heart failure who had features of dyssynchrony.
There are very few long-term followup data in patients with CRT. This is a report on the long-term outcome of patients in the trial.

Recent publications may well mark a change in practice since the publication of both the ESC Guidelines on pacing and on heart failure. The specific topics which are highlighted are the management of patients with left ventricular dysfunction but few symptoms, those with atrial fibrillation, and finally patients who already have stimulation in place.
