Learn more about the European Society of Cardiology

The European Society of Cardiology (ESC) represents over 80,000 cardiology professionals, principally from across Europe and the Mediterranean basin, but also from the rest of the world.

The current ESC President is Professor Panos Vardas. The immediate Past President is Professor Michel Komajda. The President Elect is Professor Fausto Pinto.

The ESC provides an array of scientific and educational activities, such as the production and continuous updating of Clinical Practice Guidelines, the organisation of educational courses and initiatives, pan-European surveys on specific disease areas.

It also organises the ESC Congress, the largest medical meeting in Europe. The ESC is also proud to hold, in conjunction with its constituent bodies, subspecialty congresses, which are becoming increasingly popular within the profession.

The ESC also edits and publishes 9 of the world's leading journals on cardiology.

Cardiologists of Tomorrow

During the ESC Congress 2009 in Barcelona, young cardiologists from France carried out a survey to find out about young cardiologist organisations across Europe. The results identified a need for a strong community and thus the ESC decided to take the lead and look for support within the structure of the ESC Cardiac Societies.
