ESC Global Scientific Activities

A programme of International ESC Educational Courses built around a global network of national and regional partnerships

Already recognised as the reference for cardiology in Europe, the European Society of Cardiology has developed a new programme of educational courses to meet the International demand for ESC Science and Knowledge.

The ESC has continually played a major role in raising the standard of cardiovascular care and disease prevention in Europe.

International Relations

Using its network of national and regional partnerships the ESC will further promote its scientific initiatives and publications to an even wider - truly global - audience working closely with its Affiliated Societies.

The programme consists usually of one-day courses, organised in selected countries outside of Europe, often in conjunction with an existing conference or meeting. So far eight courses have been agreed on for this new ESC programme.

At the recent World Congress of Cardiology in China, another partnership was finalised with the Great Wall International Cardiology Congress.

In September representatives from the ESC will then bring the programme to the Brazilian city of Belo Horizonte, where the first international courses will take place during the Brazilian Society of Cardiology Congress.

The initiative will then establish a presence at congresses and with international societies in countries such as Malaysia, India and Saudi Arabia. There are many other Societies affiliated with the ESC and the programme is certain to develop in the future.

ESC Committee for Global Scientific Activities

The project will be run under the guidance of the ESC Board, which has formed the Committee for Global Scientific Activities. This committee is chaired by Professor Michel Komajda, President Elect, the current ESC President, Professor Roberto Ferrari, Professor Panos Vardas, the new President Elect, Professor Fausto Pinto, Congress Committee chair, Professor Thierry Gillebert, Ms Isabel Bardinet, ESC CEO, Mr Ben Hainsworth, ESC Congresses and Meetings Division Director, and Mr Cyril Moulin, ESC Scientific Director.

They will ensure the successful implementation of the programme into 2011 and beyond.

The development of ESC In Your Region will build closer relationships with non-European scientific communities and establish the ESC within the global Cardiology network.
