Dear members of the WG on Thrombosis,

It is with pleasure that we share with you an udpate from our Working Group.

The 2026-2028 WG on Thrombosis Nucleus has been installed, and the first meeting to set the roadmap for the coming mandate has been held by the time you read this newsletter.

We as a nucleus look very much forward to working together, both with the nucleolus and other working groups and councils. Together we aim to bring the field of thrombosis and haemostasis further, and keep you informed as to the latest developments.

We hope to see you all in Prague on the 13-14 November for our annual meeting ESC Heart & Stroke 2026 – EuroThrombosis 2026 and look forward to sharing the latest information with you then.

ESC Congress 2026 Highlight sessions

Following ESC Congress 2026 in Munich, we'd also like to share the following highlight sessions with you:

The floor is yours: bring your questions on direct oral anticoagulants monitoring and reversal - for whom, when, and why?

Nucleus member: Heleen van Beusekom
Great discussion by the experts in the field aimed at identifying appropriate indications for direct oral anticoagulants monitoring and reversal; interpreting laboratory assessments of direct oral anticoagulants activity; and how to apply guideline-based and individualised management strategies in clinical practice.

HOT LINE 3

Nucleus member: Jose Luis Ferreiro
Important RCTs on antithrombotic therapy evaluating novel agents under development or newer antiplatelet strategies in the ACS/PCI setting.

Challenges with antithrombotic strategies in atrial fibrillation and coronary disease: time to personalise?

Nucleus member: Michael D. Spartalis
This was one of his favorite presentations since it addressed a very important and frequently difficult treatment scenario: balancing thrombotic and bleeding risks in patients with atrial fibrillation and coronary artery disease. The discussion extended beyond standard treatment algorithms to provide practical guidance on how to individualize the type, combination and duration of antithrombotic therapy based on patient characteristics and evolving clinical risk.

Warm Regards
On behalf of the ESC Working Group on Thrombosis
