ESC Working Group on Cardiovascular Regenerative & Reparative Medicine

Dear Members,

Alike all members and constituent bodies of the ESC, the Working Group (WG) on Cardiovascular Regenerative and Reparative Medicine was shocked by the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic in March 2020. The WG managed to meet in their Second Scientific Retreat in Brussels (Feb 27th and 28th) and afterwards focused on the role of stem cells in the management of the COVID-19 infection (adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells in the setting of refractory respiratory distress; https://doi.org/10.1016/j.eclinm.2020.100454) and tried to continue its usual activities of education, advocacy, research and congresses. Once the worldwide pandemic has been (and still is) identified and fought against, the WG is looking forward to contributing to the Annual ESC Congress virtual experience, to increasing the number of members, to finalising important consensus documents (under review) and to preparing educational activities in the form of ESC webinars. With the final aim of improving the cardiovascular health of critical and chronic patients, the WG will devote its efforts to cardiovascular diseases and to COVID-derived cardiac sequels.
