Pharmacology and Pharmacotherapy

Last September I had the honour to become the chairman of the Working Group on Cardiovascular pharmacotherapy. This working group - whose nucleus member I have been for many years - is very active in important fields of cardiology and pharmacology like heart failure, thrombosis, lipids, diabetes, just to mention some. By these research fields we have a close relationship to other associations and working groups of the ESC.

Our activities in the next two years will continue to include educational courses on “All about clinical trials” and add a new program of “pharmacotherapy in old age”, a topic that is considered important in all cardiovascular pharmacotherapy. It is the idea of our nucleus to tailor therapy to age strata, the young, the middle aged, and the old individual.

Consistent with this aim, the annual congress of our WG will focus on age-related topics, e.g. in lipid therapy among many others. The EuroCVP congress will take place in Vienna May, 17-18, 2019. Please already now save this date.

We have two more very important activities. Professor Stefan Agewall founded our journal, the European Heart Journal Cardiovascular Pharmacotherapy (EHJ-CVP) and he is the successful editor-in-chief. The journal is highly reputed and interest into it is growing steeply. Professors Keld Kjeldsen and Juan Carlos Kaski are the editors of a handbook on our field to be published in May 2019.

A special pleasure for me is to work with a nucleus of highly motivated excellent scientists, a unique chance in a professional life.
