First Annual Congress of the Azerbaijan Society of Cardiology

The ESC was delighted to attend the society's first National Cardiology Congress, held in Baku on 16-18 November 2012

The Azerbaijan Society of Cardiology (ASC) joined the ESC family in 2011 as the 54th National Cardiac Society.
Since its creation in 2001, the society has always hosted small congresses but 11 years later, the 1st National Cardiology Congress, held in Baku on November 16-18, 2012, was a much larger scale, international event.

Gathering more than 400 participants from countries across Europe, as well as many from Turkish language countries such as Albania, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan and Bashkiria, 58 abstracts were presented in addition to organised satellite symposiums, scientific sessions, and quizzes. The congress also attracted more than 20 pharmacological companies.

Prof. Faiq Guliyev, President of the Azerbaijan Society of Cardiology made a presentation on the state of cardiology in the country, on the current situation of Cardiology Specialization Education and Practices and proposed solutions to challenges in line with ESC recommendations on education and training.

We were delighted with the success of our first major congress and welcomed the valuable contribution of the ESC faculty.

The ESC was proud to participate and hold a stand at the congress, where ESC President Elect Prof. Fausto Pinto, Past ESC President Prof. Roberto Ferrari attended and Prof. Wolfram Döhner from Germany also took part in the ASC/ESC joint session on Heart Failure.
