ESC Elections

Term 2018-2020

2018-2020 ESC Board, Nominating Committee and Audit Committee

The nomination process for the 2018 ESC elections is currently in progress and interested candidates are invited to apply to the ESC Nominating Committee before the deadline of the 20th November 2017.

The election process concerns positions on the ESC Board 2018-2020, ESC Nominating Committee 2018-2020 and ESC Audit Committee 2018-2020.


The open positions include :

  • 1 position as President Elect
  • 1 position as Secretary/Treasurer
  • 3 positions as Vice Presidents
  • 6 positions as Councillors
  • 12 positions as Nominating Committee members
  • 1 position as an Audit Committee member

All proposals need to be supported by the national cardiac society of the proposed nominee and one of the scientific constituent bodies.

I would like to draw your attention to a few important points in this regard, according to the ESC Statutes:

Election to the Board:

The Nominating Committee should propose more than one candidate for each voting position of the new Board.

Names can be proposed for the positions of President-Elect, Secretary-Treasurer, three Vice-Presidents and six Councillors.

  1. All candidates for voting members of the Board positions need to be Fellows of the ESC in good standing
  2. Proposed candidates must be eligible according to the ESC Statutes and not have served in the same position in the past
  3. Candidates for the position of President-Elect must be currently serving or have served in the immediately preceeding Board as voting members or ex-officio voting members of the Board
  4. The Constituent Bodies have the right and obligation to officially propose names of candidates, clearly stating the Board position for each of them.
    The Constituent Bodies can propose a candidate for one or more Board positions as shown below:
    Mr/Mrs Brown is proposed to serve as either:
    Vice President of the ESC Board 2018-2020 or Councillor of the ESC Board 2018-2020

Election to the Audit Committee

The Audit Committee consists of five members. The Ordinary General Assembly shall elect two members of the Audit Committee; one to represent the National Societies and one to represent the Associations, Councils and Working Groups. They shall serve for a four-year term.

Election to the Nominating Committee

The  Committee should propose candidates for the new Nominating Committee: (i) a minimum of nine candidates, and no more than twelve, from the National Societies; and (ii) a minimum of nine candidates, and no more than twelve, from Associations, Councils and Working Groups. A total of 12 members will be elected for the new Nominating Committee, six of whom will represent the National Societies and six of whom will represent the Associations, Working Groups and Councils. Please note that members of  the Nominating Committee are only eligible for a Board position 2 years after they finish their mandate on the Nominating Committee. 

Proposed candidates who accept nomination will need to provide before the deadline of the 20th of November 2017:

Please do bear in your mind that the rules defined by the updated ESC statutes approved in Barcelona August 2017 should be followed by everyone, including the ESC Nominating Committee 2016-2018.
