Long-Term Structure

Members of the committee

From September 2020, the ESC Board Committee for Young Cardiovascular Professionals will be composed of 22 members:

  • One Chair nominated by the ESC President-Elect;
  • One Vice Chair, nominated by the ESC President-Elect;
  • Six NCS representatives (three full representatives with voting rights and three deputy representatives with no voting rights);
  • Twelve representatives – one from each of the 12 subspecialty young groups appointed directly by their boards; and
  • Two ESC advisors who may be called upon as senior referents and will be nominated by the ESC President-Elect.

Length of mandates

The Chair is appointed for a maximum two-year term. The NCS representatives serve maximum four-year terms (two years as deputy representatives and two years as full representatives). The subspecialty representatives and the two ESC advisors from the ESC Board serve maximum two-year terms. None of the members of the ESC Board Committee for Young Cardiovascular Professionals can be reelected for another term.

NCS Representatives Elections

Background

The NCS deputy representatives elections take place in the spring every two years. The newly elected members take up their positions at the following ESC Congress every even-numbered year at the start of the mandate of the new ESC President.

In 2022, the three NCS deputy representatives elected in 2020 will become NCS full representatives (for 2022-2024). They will be from three different countries. The national young leaders from those three countries will not be able to apply for the positions of the new NCS deputy representatives (2022-2024).

The NCS representatives (2020-2022) are:

  • Dr. Ricardo Ladeiras Lopes, Portugal
  • Dr. Amia Rakisheva, Kazakhstan
  • Dr. Harri Silvola, Finland

Candidates for NCS deputy representatives

Criteria of eligibility
  • Young Chair of a National Cardiac Society
  • Must be under 40 years old as of the first day of the ESC Congress the year of the elections
  • Must be an ESC Professional Member (age 40 and under) from an ESC member country
  • The six NCS representatives must come from six different NCS countries (candidates for the three positions of NCS deputy representatives must come from different countries than the previous three NCS deputy representatives)

N.B. Candidates from Kazakhstan, Portugal and Finland will not be able to apply for the 2020 elections.

Each application must include
  • Background CV (if in training, the expected end date for training should be indicated);
  • Cover letter citing reasons and motivation for wishing to serve on the ESC Board Committee for Young Cardiovascular Professionals (projects, ideas and vision), as well as fields of interest (scientific and non-scientific);
  • Supporting letter from the president of the referent National Cardiac Society;
  • Signed application document that will be visible to all voters for candidates in the final slate;
  • Signed statement and permission form; and
  • Signed guidance elections document.
