The ESC Board Committee for Young Cardiovascular Professionals is proud to launch its online networking event during ESC Asia 2021 with APSC & AFC, in the presence of ESC President, Stephan Achenbach.
This is an opportunity for the young community to participate in a live event with key opinion leaders, on the theme of 'Experience sharing: my journey to becoming a successful cardiovascular professional'. Following presentations from the speakers, young members will be able to exchange with them and with peers from the ESC Young Community.

Stephan Achenbach
Prof. Dr. med. Stephan Achenbach graduated from Medical School at Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nürnberg, Germany in 1993 and subsequently completed his training in Internal Medicine and Cardiology at the associated university hospital. In 2002/2003, he was a research fellow at the Department of Radiology and Cardiology Division, Massachusetts General Hospital. Since 2012, he is the Chairman of the Department of Cardiology and Professor of Medicine at the University of Erlangen, Germany. His main clinical interests are interventional cardiology, general cardiology as well as cardiac imaging. His research is focused on cardiac interventions and cardiac imaging with a special focus on computed tomography of the heart and the use of imaging to support coronary and structural interventional procedures.
Stephan Achenbach was the Founding President of the Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography. He has been Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography. He is the President of the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) for the mandate 2020 to 2022. Academic awards include the Jan Brod Award for Clinical Research of the Medical School of Hannover, Germany (1999), the Thomas C. Cesario Distinguished Visiting Professorship Award, University of California Irvine School of Medicine (2007), the Simon Dack Award, American College of Cardiology (2009), the Gold Medal of the Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography (2015), the Sir Godfrey Hounsfield Award of the British Institute of Radiology (2016), the Pioneer Award in Cardiovascular Computed Tomography, Society for Cardiovascular Computed Tomography (2019) and the Fritz Acker Award, German Society of Cardiology (2020). In 2017, he was selected by AuntMinnie.com as the “Most Influential Radiology Researcher” and he has repeatedly received the 1st Prize Best Teaching Award, Clinical Medicine, Medical Faculty of the University of Erlangen-Nürnberg (2013, 2014, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019).
Nannette Rey
Dr. Nannette Rey is a physician practicing since 2003 with a primary specialty of internal medicine, adult cardiology, arrhythmia and cardiac pacing, and hypertension. She is past- president of the Philippine Heart Association and currently the Philippine Governor for the American College of Cardiology and the International Society of Cardiovascular Pharmacotherapy. She is likewise the Chair of the Chapter for Women's Cardiovascular Health for the Asia Pacific Society of Cardiology.
Kenny Sin
Dr. Kenny Sin graduated from the National University of Singapore Medical School in 1989 and started his surgical training soon after. He passed his surgical fellowship examinations in 1993 and joined the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery in Singapore General Hospital as an advanced surgical trainee two years later. In 1998 he was awarded the Ministry of Health scholarship and spent two years as a cardiothoracic surgical fellow at the Oxford Heart Centre, UK, and a further six months learning aortic aneurysm surgery in Houston, Texas.
Dr. Kenny Sin was appointed as a Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon in 2001 and developed an active practice in adult cardiac surgery with an interest in aortic surgery, both open and endovascular. He was the Head of the Department of Cardiac Surgery until 2016, and is currently Deputy Medical Director and Deputy Academic Vice-Chair of the Cardiovascular Academic Clinical Programme at the National Heart Centre Singapore. He is also the current Director of the ASEAN College and Past President of the ASEAN Federation of Cardiology, Secretary-General of the Association of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgeons of Asia, and is in charge of Education in the Asian Pacific Society of Cardiology.
He has contributed to several book chapters as well as published in a variety of regional and international peer-reviewed journals and teaching appointments as Associate Professor at both the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore, and also at the Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School. Dr, Kenny Sin is also the Chair for the National Cardiothoracic Surgery Residency Advisory Committee and is actively involved in surgical training, mentoring and research.
Allan Böhm - Moderator
Allan Böhm, MD, PhD, MBA, FESC works at the Department of Acute Cardiology at the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases, Bratislava, teaches at the Faculty of Medicine at Comenius University in Bratislava and studies clinical research at Oxford University. In addition to clinical medicine, he also dedicates his time to research in the field of cardiovascular prevention, thromboses, arrhythmias and artificial intelligence. In 2015, he founded the biomedical organization Premedix Academy. In 2017, he was approached by the European Society of Cardiology to establish, together with other international colleagues, the Committee for Digital Health. In 2020, Dr. Böhm became the youngest Board member in the history of the European Society of Cardiology and the first Slovak ever to become a Board member of the world’s most prestigious cardiology society.
He is the Chair of the ESC Board Committee for Young Cardiovascular Professionals.
