The activities of the ESC, and similar activities by other medical associations, meet important societal and professional needs. In pursuit of its mission to reduce the burden of cardiovascular disease, the ESC undertakes an array of scientific, educational, research, advocacy and related activities including:
World-renowned for their scientific programmes and innovation.
Essential, balanced and unbiased continuing professional education.
Robust research and innovation covering clinical practice, data collection and research mapping.
Top impact factor journals that disseminate the latest science.
Trusted Clinical Practice Guidelines that ensure the highest scientific and medical standards.
The ESC acts as a united voice for cardiology to advocate for policy and regulation favourable to cardiovascular health.
While these activities are organised independently by the ESC, their costs are offset indirectly and in part by funding that the ESC receives from the healthcare industry. Over the years, numerous examples of collaborations between the ESC and Industry have led to giant strides in advancing healthcare solutions in cardiology and we strongly believe that nurturing these relationships is essential to further advancing global standards in the field. All parties involved have something to bring to the table: resources, intellectual contribution and more importantly – a shared mission, a shared vision: to reduce the burden of cardiovascular disease.
The ESC undertakes the aforementioned activities in strict compliance with relevant codes to ensure objectivity, transparency and integrity.
The ESC requires those members contributing to its activities to apply the ESC Code of Ethics, the ESC Declaration and Management of Conflict of Interest Policy and the Code of Ethics of the Alliance for Biomedical Research in Europe. In the spirit of our partnerships, ESC also applies the Codes of the relevant industry bodies to the appropriate activities as required:
Every year, the ESC publishes a comprehensive Annual Report outlining our most recent achievements and ongoing initiatives. Please consult our latest document for more details on these including:
