In memoriam - Roman Piotrowski (PhD)

1983-2025

Arrhythmias and Device Therapy

On Saturday, 25 January 2025, Roman started his last journey – a mountain trip in the Tatra mountains. He loved ski touring and hiking in the mountains. Tragically, he did not reach his planned destination because he suffered an acute myocardial infarction complicated by cardiac arrest.

Roman was a very experienced electrophysiologist. His main interest was cardioneuroablation and he became a well-recognised worldwide scientist and operator. This intensive work resulted in several research projects, including the world’s first prospective randomised trial and recent EHRA consensus statement on cardioneuroablation. He was also the organiser of the annual Warsaw Cardioneuroablation Workshops.

Roman was a great man and a very friendly person. Recently, during our annual Christmas party, I “knighted” him as my successor and a future head of our Electrophysiology Laboratory. Sadly, it will never happen. He left us too soon, but his spirit lives on in our hearts and memories — forever remembered for the person he was and all he achieved.
