Appropriate risk stratification in patients considered at increased risk of sudden arrhythmic death is still an unsolved challenge, and the benefit of ICD therapy depends upon reliable risk assessment. Evaluation of clinical, hemodynamic and electrocardiographic risk parameters is time consuming and warrants immediate defibrillation when necessary.
The Wearable Cardioverter Defibrillator (WCD) is an approach that allows planned risk assessment while continuously protecting the patient from sudden arrhythmic death.
The purpose of this part of the Webinar is :
- To explain the appropriate use of the WCD,
- To discuss the various indications, wearing time and correct programming of the device
- To discuss currently available results from studies and registries, supported by interesting case presentations.
- The audience will learn that the WCD is not an alternative therapy to ICD or AED, but represents an approach to a more beneficial use of ICD therapy.
