Dear friends and colleagues, We are entering a new era. The era of prevention. Worldwide about 18 million people are living with the consequences of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. Annually millions die from its consequences. Curative care is not able to cope with the sheer magnitude of this problem. New solutions need to be sought to combat the global epidemic of myocardial infarctions and stroke. We have solid guidelines and expert opinions but we are still doing poor when looking at the results from the EAPC initiated European EuroAspire and Global SURF studies.
We know what to do, but we don’t know how to implement. To meet this challenge our association faces important responsibilities. Responsibilities for which we need to mobilize our assets. Our assets are our members who are at the forefront of preventive care and innovative research. In other words, you, who are reading this address and whom are needed. Each and every one of you. Seasoned clinicians and scientists, but also young and aspiring health professionals, PhD fellows and all those who share our passion for prevention.
Preventive cardiology deserves central stage in the European Society of Cardiology and we will assure that this position is being taken. By sharpening our mission. By engaging young clinicians and scientists in our activities. By utilizing our Journal, the European Journal of Preventive Cardiology, and the prime international congress in Preventive Cardiology: EuroPrevent. By setting standards of care, implementing accreditation programs and monitoring progress in all corners of the globe. I invite you all to share your views and thoughts about the way to move forward.
Please send any suggestions or creative ideas to my personal email address. You can be sure your messages are taken seriously. Ideas about research that will make a difference. Ideas about community building to involve the range of disciplines and competences that shape preventive cardiology. Ideas about how our association can make a sustainable contribution to the prevention of cardiovascular disease. Ideas about how educational activities will build capacity and competences, also in areas where these are scarce and hard to achieve. There are no limits. We welcome each and every individual that will help to make the world a healthier place. Your votes count.
The European Association of Preventive Cardiology stands for excellence in preventive cardiovascular care and research. An association of which you want to be part. Part of a movement that takes the lead in cardiovascular preventive innovation. Be sure you are among those that define the future of cardiovascular prevention. Be sure to enroll as a member.
