A global roadmap to expand access and equity in cardiac rehabilitation

Empowering patients through cardiac rehabilitation was a key focus of the World Heart Federation (WHF) Heart Café sessions at ESC Congress 2025.

The session celebrated the soon-to-be-launched WHF Cardiac Rehabilitation Roadmap, which will provide a strategic framework to address barriers and expand access to cardiac rehabilitation across diverse health systems.

Speaking at the event Dr. Irene Gibson (ACNAP Advocacy Committee Member) highlighted what can be achieved when organisations come together with a united voice. The roadmap builds on the cross-cutting strategies for collective action that were identified at the Global Cardiac Prevention and Rehabilitation Forum which was held in London in August 2024. For the first time, the forum brought together over 40 organisations from 20 countries to develop solutions and consolidate efforts to improve global cardiovascular health.

The new roadmap will present a forward-looking vision, that aims to enhance equitable access to cardiac rehabilitation, improve patient outcomes and ensure value-based healthcare.
