Needs assessment and expected educational outcome
Peer review is often referred to as the ‘gold standard of science’. It is a critical part for all in academia and on the career path of health professionals. It is not limited to quality review of manuscripts and research funding applications: it is also used for vocation applications and promotions by faculty with relevant expertise. If adequately performed, the peer review process strengthens the quality of research output. However, it has also been criticised for its weaknesses, which can include bias or errors that may be missed by reviewers. In this webinar, leaders in the field will provide insights on optimising the strengths of peer review.
After watching the webinar, participants will be able to:
- understand the process of peer review;
- identify how to tailor peer review specific to manuscript submission vs. research funding application or promotion/employment application ; and
- appreciate the limitations of peer review and how to overcome limitations for positive impact.
