Parachute deformity of the mitral valve is characterized by shortened chordae tendinae which converge and insert into a single papillary muscle as it can be visualized in the multislice (left panel) and sagittal volume rendering (central panel) images. Thickened leaflets with shortened chordae tendinae cause a relative mitral stenosis that can be seen in a volume rendered en face view of the valve from the ventricular perspective (right panel).
