The examination is designed in two consecutive parts, three hours each, with a 60-minute lunch break between:
The EHRA reserves the right to modify the schedule, if required. If travelling after the exam, we strongly recommend that candidates plan their return flights late the same day or the day after.
Participants are required to sign in at least 30 minutes before the start of the exam and to present their information letter (sent during the registration process) and an identity card or passport.
After the exam, participants will have to hand in all their exam material and sign out.
The questionnaire is compiled by the EHRA Certification Committee for AP. It consists of 130 multiple-choice questions, with 60%–80% based on analysis of practical clinical cases and decision-making, with the remainder dedicated to theory.
The statistical performance of each multiple-choice question (MCQ) is analysed and the 10 least discriminating MCQs are not taken into account. The candidate's final score is, therefore, derived from only 120 MCQs. The pass mark is predetermined using a validated standard-setting process.
There is no appeal procedure after the examination. Results are sent by email two months after the exam has been taken. Upon passing the exam, candidates will receive an ECDSAP Certificate valid for 10 years.
Candidates cannot resit the exam in the same calendar year. A candidate who fails the Dutch exam in November can resit in March 2020.
As skills can only be maintained by continuing education and practical involvement, certification is granted for 10 years. After that period, exams must be retaken to renew certification.
