Highlights from the 2024 Cardio Genomics Conference

Dear Colleagues,

As we step into 2025, we reflect with great enthusiasm on the success of the first in-person meeting of the ESC Council on Cardiovascular Genomics, held on 6 and 7 December 2024, in Antwerp, Belgium. This event was a landmark opportunity to advance our collective understanding and application of cardiovascular genomic medicine.

Record-Breaking Attendance and a Truly 360º Perspective

The meeting reached full capacity, demonstrating the strong interest in integrating genetic data into daily cardiovascular practice. Over two dynamic days, attendees benefited from a well-rounded programme addressing the full spectrum of cardiovascular genomics, including arrhythmic disorders, cardiomyopathies, valvular and ischaemic heart disease, vascular disorders, and the promise of polygenic risk scores. This comprehensive approach provided a 360º view of the field and highlighted cutting-edge therapeutic innovations that are paving the way for personalised cardiovascular care.

Fostering Collaboration Across Expertise Levels

One of the meeting’s standout features was its ability to bring together a diverse group of participants, from senior cardiologists and geneticists to trainees and young investigators. The balanced mix of clinical and research perspectives fostered vibrant discussions and meaningful collaborations, ensuring that attendees left with new insights and expanded professional networks.

Global Reach and Scientific Excellence

Encompassing experts from all corners of Europe (from Portugal to Central Asia), this truly international event showcased a myriad of viewpoints and ideas. The programme included state-of-the-art lectures, rapid-fire sessions, a young investigator session, debates, and interactive forums that enabled lively exchanges between the audience and speakers. The level of scientific presentations was exceptionally high, reflecting the dedication of the organising committee and the expertise of our speakers.

An Inspiring Venue and Festive Surroundings

The historic city of Antwerp provided an inspiring backdrop for this meeting, hosted in a beautifully restored monastery in the heart of the city. Coinciding with the Christmas season, participants had the chance to unwind after each day’s sessions by exploring the festive Christmas market and enjoying the city’s renowned culinary delights.

Looking Ahead

We extend our heartfelt thanks to all who contributed to the success of this meeting — the speakers, organisers, and participants who made this event a memorable and impactful experience. The ESC Council on Cardiovascular Genomics is proud to have provided a platform for sharing knowledge, fostering collaboration, and pushing the boundaries of cardiovascular genomic medicine.

We are excited to announce that the next Conference will be held on 5—6 December 2025 in the vibrant city of Lisbon (Portugal). Stay tuned for further details.
