ESC Preventive Cardiology 2020 - Formerly EuroPrevent

Coronavirus and ESC Preventive Cardiology 2020

I am sad to inform you that ESC Preventive Cardiology 2020, the scientific congress of the European Association for Preventive Cardiology scheduled for 2-4 April in Malaga, is cancelled.

The ESC and EAPC leadership have been following closely the rapid spread of COVID-19 and its impact. Increasingly severe measures are being put in place to limit the spread of the virus as physicians and hospitals deal with a pandemic.

More than 50% of our congress faculty has informed us that they will be unable to attend – and that number will only grow. With so many of you on the front lines of the current health crisis, we know you have other priorities and we offer our support and solidarity to all of you.

As I write this message, it is unclear what additional measures the Spanish Government will impose on the city of Malaga. Events of more than 1,000 are already banned in Madrid, parts of the Basque country and La Rioja.

Given our inability to assure a faculty presence, coupled with more elaborate restrictions in Spain, and of course the health of our faculty, delegates and staff, cancelling our congress is the only responsible course of action.

We are now discussing how we will move forward. We will keep you updated as information becomes available.

Check the FAQ webpage to get answers to your questions.

On behalf of the EAPC Executive Board and the Congress Chair, Prof. Ana Abreu, thank you for your understanding and steadfast support.

Paul Dendale
EAPC President 2018 - 2020
