FCVB 2020 Postponed - Your Questions Answered

General Information

Why has the congress been postponed?

The leadership of the ESC and the Council on Basic Cardiovascular Science (CBCS) have been closely following the current health crisis. Increasingly severe measures have been put in place to limit the spread of the virus as health systems deal with the pandemic. As such, more than 60% of our esteemed congress faculty, have already cancelled their participation – and that number will only grow.

In addition, travel restrictions and a ban on indoor meetings are currently in place in Hungary and it is difficult to ascertain how the situation will evolve in the coming weeks.

As a result of these factors and our responsibility to protect the health of our faculty, delegates and staff, the CBCS committee agreed that postponing FCVB to April 2021 was the only responsible course of action.

Will the congress be postponed to a later date?

Yes, the congress will take place from 22 to 25 April 2021 in Budapest, Hungary.


Will I be refunded for the cost of my registration fee?

Your registration will be automatically transferred to FCVB 2021. If you can no longer attend, you will be given the opportunity to request a full refund.

Please send your refund request before 15 June 2020.  After this date all registrations will automatically be transferred to FCVB 2021.

How, when and where will I be refunded for my registration fee?

If you are unable to attend FCVB 2021 you will be refunded on the credit card you used to register. If the payment was made by bank transfer you can add the bank details to your My ESC account.

Please note that the registration will only be refunded to the account used for the payment of your registration. Please send your refund request before 15 June 2020.

After this date registrations will automatically be transferred to FCVB 2021.

I cancelled my participation in the congress before it was officially postponed. Will I be eligible for a refund?

If you cancelled your participation in the congress before the postponement was announced on 26 March 2020, you will need to provide an official document stating that you were unable to attend due to travel restrictions. Please email us your document.

Transportation and Hotels

Can I get refunded for my accommodation?

Please contact the agency or hotel to cancel your hotel accommodation to check the cancellation conditions.

What steps should I take to get reimbursed for the costs related to my travel / accommodation?

For hotel accommodation please contact the agency or hotel to cancel your booking and check the cancellation conditions. For your airline travel, contact your airline directly and if you have taken a travel insurance, contact your provider for information about the cancellation procedure.

I am a presenter. Are there any actions to take in order to get reimbursed for the costs related to my travel / accommodation?

The ESC will not refund individual airline ticket costs. Please contact your airline directly regarding ticket cancellations and your hotel or booking agent regarding your accommodation. If you purchased travel insurance, you should contact your provider for information and next steps.

I am an invited member of faculty. Will the ESC cancel my flights and hotels or should I do it myself?

If the ESC reserved your flight and/or hotel, we will cancel these on your behalf. No action is required on your part. If you booked your flight and/or hotel yourself, please contact your airline and booking agent directly.


Congress Travel Grants

I was awarded a grant and have already paid for my flight and hotel. Will I still get my congress grant to cover my expenses?

Please contact your travel agency or airline directly to be reimbursed for travel expenses. If reimbursement is not possible, we ask you to contact us. We will look at each individual request for reimbursement on a case by case basis.


What will happen to my science?

Invited faculty: If you accepted a faculty role for FCVB 2020, you will be contacted before November 2020 to renew the acceptance of this role.

Abstract presenters: If your abstract was accepted for FCVB 2020, it will automatically be transferred to FCVB 2021. You will be contacted before November 2020 with practical details related to the presentation of your abstract at FCVB 2021.

You will have the opportunity to submit an updated version of your abstract if you wish, or withdraw it completely if you plan to present/publish your abstract before FCVB 2021.

Can I withdraw my science and submit it elsewhere?

Yes. Kindly notify us by email so we can log this information on your abstract.

Will my abstract still be published and where?

The abstract you submitted to FCVB 2020 will be published in the I as an online supplement following your presentation at FCVB 2021. If you withdraw your abstract it will not be published.
