Getting to and around Milan

Milan has three airports: Malpensa [MXP], Linate [LIN] and Orio al Serio [BGY].

Malpensa is the biggest airport in Milan, and is located approximately 50km NW of the city. Linate is a smaller ‘city airport’, located a few KM east of the city centre. Orio al Serio is near the town of Bergamo, 50km east of Milan.

From Malpensa airport to Milan

By Train

The Malpensa Express has a service to Milan’s Central Station, as well as Garibaldi Station. The train leaves roughly every half hour. The journey time is around 50 minutes, depending on the number of stops. Tickets cost costs €12 one-way (€18 roundtrip, valid 30 days).

By Bus

There are two competing shuttle bus services. Tickets cost €10 one-way (€16 roundtrip) on both services.  The Malpensa Shuttle Bus has free WiFi on board. Please note, as both buses use public highways they can sometime run late due to traffic at peak times.

By Taxi

There is a flat fee of €90 one way from Malpensa to any destination within Milan city centre.

From Linate Airport to Milan

By ATM City Bus

Take the #73 city bus or the faster ‘express bus’ service #X73 (doesn’t run on Saturdays and Sundays) to the San Babila Metro stop (near Duomo). The ticket costs €1.50 (90-minute validity and usable for a single journey on the underground or rail network).

By Coach

There are two services to Milan’s Central Station, StarFly and AirBus.

By Taxi

Rides to the city centre are metered, however flat fares apply to Rho Fairgrounds (€50) and Malpensa Airport (€100)

From Orio Al Serio Airport to Milan

By Train

There are no direct connections with Milan. It is possible to take a bus from the airport to Bergamo town centre and then continue the journey to Milan by train. Alternatively, some buses stop en route at Milan’s Lambrate train station.

By Bus

There are three separate bus services to and from Milan’s Stazione Centrale. More information can on the airports website: http://www.sacbo.it

Driving

Milan is well connected to the rest of the country by road (mainly toll highways). Traffic can be hectic, and finding a parking space requires a certain amount of patience. There are lots of convenient parking lots at many underground stations. Milan has a ‘congestion charge’ system called ‘area C’. All private cars entering the inner city are subject to paying a 5 euro toll. There are also several ‘park and ride’ parking lots near suburban metro stops.
