Our mission is to promote excellence in clinical diagnosis, research, technical development, and education in cardiovascular imaging in Europe.
Our mission is to promote excellence in research, practice, education and policy in cardiovascular health, primary and secondary prevention.
Our mission is to reduce the burden of cardiovascular disease through percutaneous cardiovascular interventions.
Improving the quality of life and reducing sudden cardiac death by limiting the impact of heart rhythm disturbances.
Our mission is to improve quality of life and longevity, through better prevention, diagnosis and treatment of heart failure, including the establishment of networks for its management, education and research.
The ESC Working Groups' goal is to stimulate and disseminate scientific knowledge in different fields of cardiology.
The ESC Councils' goal is to share knowledge among medical professionals practising in specific cardiology domains.
OUR MISSION: TO REDUCE THE BURDEN OF CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASE
There is a long tradition within the FOCUS imaging session to host a session on complications during percutaneous cardiovascular interventions. Traditionally, as requested with the FOCUS frame, 3 clinical cases are presented. These cases deal with common and less common issues in this field, often with the focus on coronary revascularisation. The concept is to take full advantage of the full multimedia offer of the FOCUS sessions to stimulate interaction with the audience (e.g. using prepared multiple choice questions, voting pads…etc)This year, as requested by Prof. Keith Fox (current chair of the Congress Committee), a joint session was organised with China Interventional Therapeutics (CIT). CIT is the official congress of the cardiology branch of the Chinese Medical Association. The session was chaired by Prof. Runlin Gao (Course Director of CIT) and Eric Eeckhout (FOCUS sessions chair). Panelists where Yalin Han from Shenyang, to represent the Chinese colleagues, and Martin Thomas, as the European cardiologist. An introductory lecture was given by Prof Amir Lerman on current prevention and management of prevention: his lecture brought us from risk scale models, check lists, management of workload for busy cardiologists to issues of training and education. Ending with education, this introduced the 3 cases that would be presented thereafter.First, Prof. Jean Fajadet presented a case of severe dissection, highlighting tricks to solve and present this. Then, Prof. Yundai Chen showed a case of perforation and PCI and the dilemmas in treating this particular condition. Finally, Prof. Dariusz Dudek showed a case of delayed dissection of PCI and its unusual management. This great interactive session was well attended and truly reached its objectives.
