Quality and patient safety essential to the NVVC
One of Europe’s oldest Cardiology Societies, the Netherlands Society of Cardiology (NVVC - Nederlandse Vereniging voor Cardiologie) aims for quality and safety in its mission to develop cardiology in the widest sense of the word in the daily practice, through science and high level education, and to promote the interest of its members. |
The NVVC was founded in 1934 and the membership file contains more than 1,200 names, which is close to 100% of all registered and working cardiologists in the Netherlands today.
The flagship and major achievement of the society is the foundation of the NVVC-National Cardiovascular Data Register, established in order to ensure a high quality of care for cardiovascular patients nationwide. |
Other central activities are:
- Developing and maintaining an internal and external network, both nationally and internationally
- Convening scientific meetings
- Issuing publications on topics discussed during these meetings
- Setting up committees and working groups, in order to cover all subspecialties and activities, in a structure similar to the ESC.
|
| The relationship with the ESC is a close one and Dutch cardiologists are highly represented in the ESC activities and corporate structure. The ESC advantages and benefits are promoted to the NVVC members by means of presentations during the annual national congresses, which take place during Spring and Autumn every year (Spring meeting 17-18 April 2008 in Amsterdam) |

The official journal of the society is the Netherlands Heart Journal which has been published since 2001. The Chief Editors office is chaired by Prof. Ernst van der Wall. The Netherlands Heart Journal is published eleven times a year and is indexed in PubMed. An electronic version is available on the internet, also allowing online submission of articles.
Visit the NVVC website for more details or check their pages on the ESC Web Site for details in English.
