The congress of the German Cardiac Society (GCS) was held on 26-29 March 2008 Mannheim, under its German name “74. Jahrestagung der Deutschen Gesellschaft für Kardiologie”.
During the opening ceremony, GCS President, Professor Gerd Heusch, FESC, stressed the importance of the current crisis experienced by the German Academic Medicine.
Congress President, Professor Dr. Hans Michael Piper, FESC, underlined the success of the meeting with 7,300 registered active visitors. The focus this year was Reperfusion, Remodeling and Regeneration.
ESC President-Elect Professor Roberto Ferrari, FESC, gave a presentation on the ESC and showed by means of a tree representation that the National Societies, pictured as roots, have a major role to play in the Society.

In order to strengthen the existing close relationship between the European Society of Cardiology and the German Cardiac Society, ESC representatives were delighted to be sharing a joint stand with the GSC.
Nearly 300 German delegates dropped by the ESC stand to collect information about forthcoming ESC congresses, ESC scientific initiatives or services or to get a hold of the Pocket Guidelines, as popular as ever.
