The main theme of the 14th International Congress of the
Polish Cardiac Society was "problems of the elderly in cardiology and cardiac surgery" that often remain questions with no clear answers. As stated by Prof. Banaisak, President of the Polish Cardiac Society in his welcome to the scientific programme: "In the modern cardiology, we view the diseased heart in regard to the patient as a whole. It is thus no coincidence that we will host many eminent guests who are chairmen of other scientific societies or national consultants in other areas to debate these interdisciplinary problems".

This theme was the subject of presentations in 10 sessions where problems of the aged in various disease areas in cardiology were discussed. Several cardiology experts from Europe were invited by the Polish Cardiac Society, and their presence and presentations added a highly international touch to the Congress, which was held 23-25 September in Poznan. The ESC visited the congress and shared the Polish Cardiac Society stand.
Professor Frans Van de Werf from Belgium was one of the international guests honoured with the title of the Polish Cardiac Society Honorary Member.
The invited presidents of scientific societies and state consultants representing different fields of medicine participated in special sessions entitled “Guests of the President of the Polish Cardiac Society”. That was an extremely important event as part of the strategy realised by the Polish Cardiac Society.
The about 5000 attendees at the congress had the choice to attend no less than 21 working group sessions, 27 abstract sessions, 37 educational sessions, 17 poster sessions and 12 satellite sessions. Among the sessions were a special session in honour of the prominent Polish cardiologist Professor Zygmunt Sadowski, a joint session between the National Societies of France, Germany and Poland, and a 'Best of ESC Stockholm 2010' educational session.
Next year’s Polish congress will take place in Wroclaw 6-8 October 2011
