Russian National Cardiology Congress held its annual national congress 5-7 October 2010 at the presidium of the Russian Academy of Science, in Moscow. The congress was organised in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Social Development of the Russian Federation, Society of Cardiology of the Russian Federation, Russian Cardiology Research and Production Complex, the State Research Centre for Preventive Medicine.
The Russian National Congress of Cardiology has for many years been the most ambitious national scientific forum for professionals working in the field of cardiology and related areas of medicine. This year, the congress was attended by 3 600 specialists, including 370 participants from CIS countries (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Ukraine). For the second year, also cardiologists from Europe, Asia and other parts of the world took part, this year the largest delegations coming to Moscow were from Greece (41 participants), Turkey (33 participants), Poland (30 participants), but also cardiologists from Germany, Italy, Jordan, India New Zealand, France and the United States were present.
A high scientific and educational level of activities of the Congress was ensured by participation of leading Russian and foreign scientists, clinicians, talented teachers and health care specialists.
The main scientific topics of the Congress were basic research in cardiology, new medical technologies in cardiology, new approaches to treatment of major cardiovascular diseases, interventional cardiology, surgical treatment of cardiovascular diseases, problems of rehabilitation of cardiac patients, prevention of cardiovascular diseases, improvement of the delivering of cardiology services, schools for physicians on the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of major cardiovascular diseases.
The abstract programme consisted of 922 abstracts, published in the abstract book available at the congress. A compendium book of clinical guidelines of the Society of cardiology of Russian Federation was also a very popular scientific item for the congress attendees. Three national guidelines were presented during the closing plenary session: "Diagnostic and treatment of cardiovascular diseases during pregnancy", "Diagnostic and treatment of chronic heart failure. The third revision" and "Diagnostic and treatment of hypertension. The fourth revision"
The scientific program of the congress was prepared with participation of 5 Russian scientific societies and associations, as well as the European Society of Cardiology, American College of Cardiology, the Association of Clinical and Vascular Biology of Turkey.
The scientific program of the Congress included: 2 plenary sessions, 63 workshop, 13 scientific sessions, 8 lectures, 3 meetings with experts, 6 round tables, 2 schools for doctors, a scientific discussion, a meeting of discussion club and a interactive discussion, profile commission Ministry of Health on Preventive Medicine, poster sessions over 3 days, and a competition with young scientists. The congress program, which met great interest among the wider medical community, reflected the latest advances in the treatment of cardiovascular diseases and the most resent achievements in medical science and practice in the field of cardiology.
For the first time this year, the congress held joint sessions with foreign scientific societies and associations: one joint session of the European Society of Cardiology, 2 joint sessions with the American College of Cardiology and a one joint session with the Association of Clinical and Vascular Biology of Turkey. The sessions resulted not only in the exchange of scientific knowledge, but also in reaching agreements on international cooperation in research, education and publications. In addition, there was a joint stand of the Society of Cardiology of the Russian Federation and European Society of Cardiology in the exhibition area.
42 young cardiologists from medical institutions and universities in Russia took part in the young cardiologists competition. The six winners received diplomas, gifts and scientific literature.
The Congress included an exhibition of both national and international medicines, medical devices, advanced information technologies, and specialised publications. 77 exhibitors in total were present, including 8 publishers.
