Rights and Duties

Affiliated Cardiac Societies benefit from specific rights

Rights of the Affiliated Cardiac Societies

Affiliated Cardiac Societies will benefit from specific rights when entering the ESC “family”:

  • Special “affiliate” pages have been created within the ESC website, which can be used to promote the congresses and other activities of the Affiliates. Information can also be included in the ESC Web News. Links will be provided to the Affiliates’ websites.

  • Customer services are open to members of Affiliated Cardiac Societies through ESC National Cardiac Societies & Membership Services Department.

  • The individual members of the Affiliated Cardiac Society benefit from rights similar to those of the individual members of ESC National Cardiac Societies, if they provide the ESC with a written confirmation of their membership from their Affiliated Cardiac Society upon request for ESC benefits.

  • A meeting of representatives of Affiliated Cardiac Societies with the Board of the ESC will be organised every year at the ESC Congress.

  • Preferential communication with the ESC and Affiliated Cardiac Societies and a senior ESC Board Member (usually one of the Vice-Presidents). The Director of the Membership Department is the principal contact person for the Affiliated Cardiac Societies.

  • Exemption from the annual fees for all their members that are paid by all Cardiac Societies that are full members of the ESC.

However, the following limitations apply:

  • Affiliated Cardiac Societies will have no voting rights at the General Assembly.

  • Members of Affiliated Cardiac Societies will not be eligible for election to positions on the Board of the ESC.

  • Affiliated Cardiac Societies will have no formal representation on the ESC Committees and Task Forces.

Duties of the Affiliated Cardiac Society

Affiliated Cardiac Societies undertake to encourage their members to participate in ESC activities and to use its scientific and educational products.

Affiliated Cardiac Societies should appoint a person responsible for communication with the ESC.

The ESC will not manage the membership databases of the Affiliated Cardiac Societies. However, the Affiliated Cardiac Societies may be requested (to the extent permitted by local law) to share the list of e-mail addresses of their members in a usable format. The ESC may then communicate directly or indirectly with these members concerning ESC programmes and products. The ESC will respect the confidentiality of this data in accordance with current legislation, and will not transmit the data to any commercial third parties.
