The status of Affiliated National Societies comes from the wish of the ESC Board to create a platform for National Societies and other professional bodies interested in cardiovascular medicine, based outside Europe and the Mediterranean Sea basin, to enable their closer collaboration with the ESC.
22 Affiliated National Societies are so far recognised as official partners of the European Society of Cardiology (ESC). Find out more about them here.
Their members can apply for membership of Working Groups and Associations and can become Fellows or Nurse Fellows of the ESC.
Activities
Affiliated Bodies will be encouraged to participate in most of the activities of the ESC. Different activities may be jointly organised by the ESC and the Affiliates, according to specific needs and existing resources.
A preferred communication will be established between the ESC and its Affiliated Societies and regular meetings and visits are taking place to ensure follow up on collaboration.
Contribute to the preparation of the annual ESC Congress and other Scientific meetings and symposia:
- submit proposals for pre-arranged sessions, and their members are encouraged to send abstracts to all congresses of the ESC (annual congresses and subspecialty congresses).
- propose experts to be considered as abstract graders and sessions chairmen.
- organise joint sessions with the ESC during their National Congresses
Take part in joint initiatives with the ESC
Affiliated National Societies are encouraged to submit scientific papers to the ESC journals, as well as to the subspecialty journals published by the ESC.
Other forms of collaboration may be considered, such as creation of specific language versions of the journals, if approved by the publisher and the editorial office.
Conditions for participations of the members of Affiliated Bodies in the educational events organised by the ESC will be the same as for the ordinary ESC members.
Affiliated National Societies may adopt the ESC Core Syllabus, and are encouraged to use it for any educational purpose in their countries.
- Practice Guidelines and Policy Conferences
Affiliated National Societies are expected to officially endorse the ESC Guidelines.
They could also participate in Policy Conferences, Consensus Conferences and in the preparation of position papers, policy documents or other similar documents.
Affiliated National Societies are offered the possibility to use the Euro Heart Survey protocols, or to contribute to the ESC Survey Programme.
Affiliated National Societies are encouraged to have their educational and scientific events accredited by the European Board for Accreditation in Cardiology (EBAC).
