Principles and areas of collaboration
Affiliated Cardiac Societies will be offered the possibility to participate in most of the activities of the ESC. Different activities may be jointly organised by the ESC and the Affiliated Cardiac Society, according to particular needs and resources.
A preferred communication is established between the ESC and its Affiliated Cardiac Societies by regular meetings and visits to take place to ensure continuing collaboration.
Affiliated Cardiac Societies undertake to encourage their members to participate in congress activities of the ESC.
Members of Affiliated Cardiac Societies are encouraged to send abstracts to all congresses of the ESC (annual congresses and subspecialty congresses). There will, however, be no guarantee of privileged selection. Affiliated Cardiac Societies may propose experts to be considered as abstract graders and chairpersons of sessions.
The ESC is willing to organise ESC Joint Sessions at the National Congresses of the Affiliated Cardiac Societies, if there is mutual interest and sufficient available resources. The ESC will develop programmes and offer speakers, but budgets for travelling expenses need to be provided by the Affiliated Cardiac Society.
Visits by ESC representatives to the annual congress of the Affiliated Cardiac Society will be considered, and the ESC may provide material for exhibition on the Affiliated Cardiac Society’s stand.
Members of Affiliated Cardiac Societies are encouraged to join the prestigious community of Fellows. On individual basis, they are encouraged to apply for Fellowship of the ESC.
ESC Journals
Members of Affiliated Cardiac Societies are encouraged to
submit scientific papers to ESC journals, as well as to the subspecialty journals published by the ESC, and they are
encouraged to subscribe to these journals.
Other forms of collaboration may be considered, such as the creation of specific language versions of journals, if approved by the publisher and by the Editor-in-Chief.
Editors of the official journals published by the Affiliated Cardiac Societies will be invited to join the Editors’ Network of the European Society of Cardiology.
Conditions for participation of members of Affiliated Cardiac Societies in educational events organised by the ESC will be the same as for ordinary ESC members.
Affiliated Cardiac Societies may adopt the ESC Core Syllabus, and use it for any educational purpose in their countries. Affiliated Cardiac Societies are encouraged to purchase ESC educational products, such as books, distance learning programs, CD-ROMs, pocket guidelines, and similar.
Affiliated Cardiac Societies are encouraged to officially endorse ESC Guidelines. Publication and translation of ESC Guidelines will be regulated by a separate contract.
Depending on local possibilities and interest, Affiliated Cardiac Societies may be offered the possibility to use and may participate to the EURObservational Research Programme (EORP). The ESC might manage data in Affiliated countries.
The ESC may facilitate training and research programs in European cardiac centres at the request of an Affiliated Cardiac Society. Each year, starting from 2010, 3 grants of €25,000 will be offered in open competition to applicants from the Affiliated Cardiac Societies to young cardiologists, to enable them to spend a period of clinical or research training in a centre within one of the ESC member countries.
