Protocol Summary
The purpose of this survey is to collect data from cardiology departments throughout Europe, to evaluate current practice and treatment of adult patients with congenital heart disease, and the accordance with existing guidelines.
The Euro Heart Survey on Adult Congenital Heart Disease addresses patients with the 8 following defects:
- ASD II (non)-operated
- VSD (non)-operated
- Corrected Tetralogy of Fallot
- Fontan Circulation
- Transposition of the Great Arteries
- Marfan Syndrome
- Eisenmenger Syndrome/Cyanotic lesions
- Aortic Coarctation
For this Survey we studied follow-up data from 1998 – 2003.
The main purpose of this retrospective survey was to check the adherence to ESC Guidelines of the Grown-Up Congenital Heart Disease patients, and to address the following issues:
- Indications for surgery or intervention
- Reasons for conservative treatment
- Use of diagnostic procedures
- Use of endocarditis prophylaxis
- Use of anti-coagulants, ACE-inhibitors, β-blockers
