Educational Sessions - Master Class Hypertension

Master Class in Preventive Cardiology - Hypertension

Thursday 3 May (09:00 -18:00): 4 subsequent sessions held in Room 'Liffey B'
These sessions will be recorded and will be available as a webcast.

This interactive masterclass has been organised by the EACPR Education Committee and will focus on cutting-edge aspects of hypertension, including ambulatory BP measurement, new goals, advances in treatment, and stroke prevention and management.

This interactive hypertension course programme will give participants the opportunity to learn the latest information on

• tips and tricks in the diagnosis of hypertension and its complications
• the role of 24-hour ambulatory, home-based or office blood pressure monitoring for the diagnosis of hypertension
• evaluation of end-organ damage in patients with hypertension
• the goals, best drug strategy, and the management of difficult hypertensive cases.
• the relationship between hypertension and stroke
• the strategies to manage patients with acute stroke.
• develop optimal treatment strategies for patients with co-morbidities and special conditions.

• identify the diagnostic methods that need to be undertaken in a patient with hypertension,
• describe the role of 24-hour ambulatory, home-based or office BP monitoring for the evaluation of hypertension,
• discuss the assessment of end-organ damage caused by hypertension

After this session, the participants will be able to:
• Learn the goals for the hypertensive patient as well as the patient with hypertension and other comorbidities in the year 2012,
• Learn the mechanism of action, efficacy and side effects of strategies to prevent and treat patients with hypertension,
• Learn in detail the optimal lifestyle strategies, such as nutritional choices and physical activity, to reduce blood pressure levels,
• Learn the best and most updated management of the patients with resistant hypertension

• Learn analytical and state-of-the-art approaches to understanding the management of patients with hypertension and stroke, in terms of prevention, acute treatment and post-stroke evaluation

•Learn the best way to manage  the coexistence of  atrial fibrillation and hypertension
