Geneva’s International Airport is a major European hub with direct links on 40 different carriers. The airport features a business centre, world class shopping and top flight arrival services including a range of transportation options.

A great advantage is the airport’s proximity to the city centre: 5 km (3 miles). A direct rail connection links the airport to the downtown railway station in 7 minutes.

Since January 2008, you can pick up a free ticket for public transport from the machine in the baggage collection area at the Arrival level. This Unireso ticket, offered by Geneva International Airport, allows you to use public transport in Geneva free for a period of 80 minutes. It is located between baggage areas 3 and 5.

From the airport to the city with Rail Link: Departures every 10 minutes from the airport to Gare Cornavin.

From the airport to the city by Bus: Number 10 bus departs approximately every 10 minutes to Gare Cornavin. 12-18 minute trip. Tickets are good for 1 hour including transfers.

From the airport to the city by Taxi: Available at taxi stand. Maximum 4 passengers. 15-30 minute duration.

Geneva by busGetting around Geneva

Geneva is easily conquered on foot but there are a number of transportation options when you need it. Driving is not recommended in the city due to the limited and expensive nature of parking.

If you are staying at a hotel, a youth hostel or even a campsite, the establishment will offer you the Geneva Transport Card that allows you to use public transport in Geneva free of charge during your stay. Get more information from Genève Tourisme.

This personal and non-transferable pass is established upon the visitor’s check-in in the hotel, youth hostel or camping of his (her) choice, enabling its holder to use of the entire public transportation network without restriction (bus, train and boat), with validity for the entire duration of his (her) stay including the departure day.

Local Bus: The bus system covers virtually every square meter of the city and is highly efficient. Tickets can be bought at the machines next to most stops or at newspaper stands. Prices vary according to the number of zones crossed and duration of validity. Check for routes and schedules.

Lake Boats: Part of the local TPG system includes ferry shuttles connecting the right and left banks of the city. The service operates year round during daylight hours and is a cheap way to see the city from an entirely new perspective. The boats depart every 10-30 minutes.  Check for the routes and schedules.

Bicycles: Free bicycles are available with deposit behind Gare Cornavin and at Quai du Mont-Blanc near the Bains des Paquis. The steep slopes of the Old Town and lack of bike paths in the city are a deterrent for most cyclists, but the paths along the lake are excellent.

Train: The central train station, Gare Cornavin is a beehive of activity with rail links to the airport and just about anywhere else you can think of.  Check for destinations and timetables.
