Congress Centre

Stockholmsmässan

Stockholm International Fairs is one of the world's leading and most flexible organisers of meetings.

As the leading organiser in the Baltic Sea Region, they organise some 60 industry-leading exhibitions as well as around 100 national and international congresses, conferences and events anually. Every year the venue welcomes 10,000 exhibitors, 1.5 million visitors and more than 8,000 journalists from all over the world.

A Green Venue

Transportation
The strategic location of the congress centre makes it very easy for exhibitors and visitors alike to reach the Stockholmsmassan by public transport – it’s quick, it’s convenient and comfortable. Above all, going to Stockholm International Fairs by public transport helps reduce CO2 emissions.

Waste
The amounts and types of waste generated vary from one event to another. The Stockholmsmassan sorts at source, recycles and reuses as many materials as possible – their sorting at source in 2007, for example, involved 667 tons of combustible materials and 610 tons of wood! Old packaging such as corrugated cardboard can be recycled and converted into new cardboard up to eight times. Materials that can no longer be recycled or reused, not even as heating fuel, are deposited as landfill in an environmentally sound way.

Food
Mässrestauranger, Stockholm International Fairs´ restaurant operator, is among the first in Sweden and the very first restaurant in Stockholm to be awarded the Swan eco-label. Mässrestauranger meets the Swan restaurant tough requirements in all five areas; food and beverages, chemical products and consumables, energy and water, waste and transport, as well as goals and plans for ongoing environmental work.

Accommodation
Rica Talk Hotel, which opened its doors to its first guests in 2006 next to Stockholm International Fairs´ main entrance, has also achieved Swan certification. Proactive sustainability efforts and a long-term plan for reduced environmental impact in the day to-day work was included in the pre-planning work for the new hotel, so naturally Rica Talk Hotel uses environmentally adapted fittings and furniture, eco-friendly consumables, eco-labelled cleaning agents and detergents, works systematically to cut energy and water consumption and implements a well-functioning waste management system.

The Swan
The Swan is the official Nordic eco-labelling system. It evaluates the environmental impact of goods and services over their entire life cycle, from raw material to waste. The Swan system imposes not only strict environmental, but also functional and quality-related criteria. The vision is for a sustainable society with sustainable consumerism. The Nordic eco-label currently covers 67 different groups of goods and services, including criteria for hotels and restaurants.
