Imaging Campus

EUROECHO 2010

Imaging Campus

IMAGING CAMPUS

The Educational Platform of EUROECHO

EUROECHO delegates want to do more than simply view equipment on company stands.
As such, we responded to a specific request for practical training in the latest echo techniques and/or the new clinical applications of existing ones. Therefore, we decided to maintain for the third year in a row the very successful educational platform known as the Imaging Campus.

The Imaging Campus is designed to offer a unique learning experience of practical training and/or hands-on experience in key areas of non-invasive imaging via specific objectives and credit approval.

Each session will run four times per day on the same topic allowing a large number of delegates the opportunity to participate.
Discover this dedicated programme here.

Registration for the Imaging Campus sessions is mandatory as the number of participants at each session is limited to 30.  Entrance is € 25 per session.

The online registration services are now closed.
You may still register on-site at the Imaging Campus Registration desk from
Wednesday 8 December at 08:00

 How to scan the carotid

Session objectives:
The Aloka‘s Imaging Campus session will provide practical training and hands on learning about: “How to scan a carotid“. This session is addressed to the cardiologists who would like to improve their knowledge in the vascular field.
We will review:
a) The Anatomy of the vessel (Common carotid artery, bulb, internal carotid artery, external carotid artery, vertebral).
b) The Views of ultrasound scanning (Transverse, Sagittal).
c) The Doppler (Site acquisition - Where and how to properly obtain Doppler, normal values and waveforms, ratio, disease values).

Fundamentals of speckle tracking 2D strain

    - How does it work? Principals - Pitfalls - Live cases - Future outlook

Session objectives:
This hands-on session will introduce you in the world of function imaging. We will review the basics of speckle tracking 2D strain and practice the analysis of data sets on EchoPAC workstations. Direct interaction with the lecturer will help you to avoid beginner’s mistakes.
At the end of the course you will be familiar with the relevant parameters to describe myocardial function and be able to distinguish normal deformation patterns from pathology. The session will be completed with an informative outlook into the functional analysis of 3D data sets.

Clinical use of speckle tracking 2D strain based automated function imaging (AFI) and AutoEF

Session objectives:
Understand global and regional function.
Recognize normal and abnormal deformation patterns.
Through hands-on session on EchoPAC, be able to quantify and analyze data sets with AutoEF and AFI.

Live anatomy of heart valve diseases I & II

    - Congenital valve anomalies.
    - Acquired aortic valve diseases.

Sessions objectives:
The normal anatomy of atrioventricular and semilunar valves and the structural basis of acquired and congenital valve diseases including valve prostheses, with peculiar emphasis on imaging and therapeutic aspects, both interventional and surgical.

Target audience:
Imaging cardiologists, interventional cardiologists, adult cardiologists,
paediatric cardiologists, cardiac surgeons

Course on diagnostic imaging in small animal models

Session objectives:
Aims to address the issues regarding the specific cardiovascular physiology and ultrasound examination of murine models.
Review the murine models of valvular heart disease and cardiomyopathy.
Provide hands-on session (echocardiography performed on site by participants on murine models).
Discussion of clinical cases.

Target audience:
Imaging cardiologists; basic science scientists

Atherosclerotic risk profile by ultrasound: carotid IMT-Stiffness, coronary flow, 2D strain

Session objectives:
Why and how carotid IMT and Stiffness may provide additional information within the echocardiographic appraisal.
Why and how coronary artery and carotid artery imaging by echo can be combined.
Why and how assessment of LV function by deformation index and coronary flow may represent a preclinical marker of atherosclerosis.

The new all-in-one probe for 2D/3D echo

Session objectives:
Discuss and present new 2D/3D echo workflow.

Target audience:
Imaging cardiologists and technicians

Severe aortic stenosis - Diagnosis and treatment options

Session objectives:
To highlight key aspects of diagnosing, imaging and importance of early referral for aortic valve replacement (AVR or TAVI)

Target audience:
Echocardiographers - Cardiologists

3D RV assessment and analysis: why and how

Session objectives:
The goal of the hands on tutorial will be to get a good understanding of the clinical potential of the assessment of the right ventricle and to understand the workflow of the RVA analysis with full volume RV data.

Target audience:
Imaging cardiologist - Adult cardiologist - Paediatric cardiologist

3D LV analysis - why and how!

Session objectives:
3D analysis of left ventricular morphology and function. This session will demonstrate why you should be performing this type of LV evaluation on your patients regularly and how to do it in a few simple steps.

The new generation in ultrasound services

Session objectives:
Balancing improved patient care with financial responsibility and efficient workflow can be a challenge in today’s tightening global economy. It is critical to realise the full potential of every system, every day. The new generation of services provides opportunities to maximize uptime improve efficiencies through data intelligence and shorten equipment learning curves through interactive remote clinical tutoring.

Target audience:

3D Echo and cardiac anatomy

Session objectives:
The normal anatomy mainly focused on those cardiac structures involved in interventional or electrophysiological procedures (i.e. aortic valve, mitral valve, interatrial septum, left atrial appendage, pulmonary veins...) as they are imaged with three-dimensional echocardiography. To reinforce the educational aspect of the course most of 3-D images will be shown side-byside with the corresponding anatomic specimens.
