TYPES OF SESSIONS
Pre-arranged Sessions
Main sessions: These sessions are authoritative reviews of major diagnostic applications of Echocardiography in clinical practice. These sessions constitute the 'Core Curriculum' for participants who want an up-to-date or 'state-of-the-art' overview of cardiovascular ultrasound and non-invasive diagnosis.
Debates: provide a lively yet balanced discussion on controversial issues.
Recent Advances: These are more specialist reviews of emerging applications and current research in diagnostic imaging. They will highlight recent progress in understanding the mechanisms of disease and implement new diagnostic tools.
Teaching Courses in Echocardiography: This course is aimed at all persons wishing to enhance their capabilities and visual experience in echocardiography and cover basic and typical clinical problems in ischaemic heart disease, valvular heart disease, cardiovascular intensive care, stress echo and other topics. The course features several interactive case study sessions and lectures oriented towards illustrative cases so as to ensure as much practical relevance and how-to education as possible.
DICE (Digital Interactive Clinical Echocardiography): Case presentations designed to highlight difficult diagnoses or clinically significant findings. These sessions, full of interesting cases on selected topics, will constitute an active arena for National Societies on Echocardiography and ESC Working Groups to illustrate clinical cases.
Satellite Symposia: Organised by companies with an interest in clinical applications of Cardiovascular Ultrasound. Cooperation between clinicians, researchers and the pharmaceutical and technical industries has significantly contributed to a better understanding and management of patients with cardiovascular diseases. This is reflected in a series of Symposia organised by the Industry.
Abstract-based sessions
Oral Abstract session: Oral presentation of original research on cardiovascular ultrasound . Five presentations followed by an expert summary/ review of the finding presented.
Young Investigators’ Award session: Any participant aged 35 or under is eligible to submit an abstract via MyESC for the Young Investigators' Award competition*. Four best abstracts submitted under this category will be selected for oral presentation. Each of the finalists will receive a certificate and complimentary registration. A panel of experts will then judge the competition and the First Place winner will be invited to the American Society of Echocardiography's (ASE) Annual Meeting the following year to present his/her work. *Do not forget to select the Young Investigator's Award option.
Moderated Poster sessions: The authors of the best abstracts from each poster session will briefly illustrate the content of their abstract and will take part in a specific discussion with two chairpersons in the Poster Area during the coffee breaks.
Poster sessions: Poster sessions consist of a visual display of research highlights. There are four half-days of poster displays. Poster presenters are expected to be present at their poster during the coffee break.
