Most cardiologists fly to the ESC Congress, but a group of twenty Dutch cardiologists have decided to put their money where their mouth is by going to Barcelona by bike. They will cycle from The Netherlands to Barcelona in a week, a distance of about 1600 kilometers, which is about 200 kilometers a day. The cyclists start on Saturday August 22 in Maastricht and hope to finish on Saturday August 29 in Barcelona. By cycling to the ESC, the Dutch cardiologists are raising money for Sportcor, a scientific project on cardiac arrest during sport activities. The cycling cardiologists are coached by the well-known Dutch team manager Koos Groenendaal. During their trip they will be accompanied by famous professional cyclists like Roberto Heras, Mathieu Hermans and Koen de Kort.
You can follow the trip on the website of the Netherlands Society of Cardiology (NVVC). On this website you will also find a donation form for the Sportcor-project . During the Congress, all information on the cycling cardiologists will be available at the booth of the Netherlands Society of Cardiology (NVVC) in the ESC Exhibition.
