A.Menarini Pharmaceuticals, Ireland Ltd., is a subsidiary of A.Menarini Farmaceutiche Rinuite, an Italian Research and Development pharmaceutical company established in 1886 and trading in over 100 countries. The Irish operation, employing 37 staff, began trading in October 1999. A.Menarini Ireland has been a significant contributor to continuing medical education since it was founded. Therapeutic areas include cardiology, analgesia, osteoporosis and immunology. In 1999 Nebilet (Nebivolol), a third generation vasodilating beta-blocker, was launched, indicated for essential hypertension, and more recently for stable mild and moderate chronic heart failure in addition to standard therapies in elderly patients > 70 years. In January 2004 Omesar (Olmesartan Medoxomil) an ARB, indicated for essential hypertension was launched, This was followed in May 2006 with Omesar Plus (Olmesartan medoxomil and hydrochlorothiazide), a fixed dose combination for the treatment of essential hypertension. The company looks forward to introducing other novel therapies in cardiovascular medicine.

The ESC Council on Cardiovascular Nursing and Allied Professions (CCNAP) provides an umbrella to coordinate the activities of cardiovascular nurses and allied professionals within the various groups of the European Society of Cardiology. It is devoted to promoting excellence in Cardiovascular Nursing and Allied Professions through practice, education and research.

Merck Sharp & Dohme Ireland (Human Health) Ltd. will launch TREDAPTIVE in Ireland in 2009.

 

TREDAPTIVE is indicated for the treatment of dyslipidaemia, particularly in patients with combined mixed dyslipidaemia (characterised by elevated levels of LDL cholesterol and triglycerides and low HDL cholesterol) and in patients with primary hypercholesterolaemia (heterozygous familial and non familial).

 

TREDAPTIVE should be used in patients in combination with HMG CoA reductase inhibitors (statins), when the cholesterol lowering effect of HMG CoA reductase inhibitor monotherapy is inadequate. It can be used as monotherapy only in patients in whom HMG CoA reductase inhibitors are considered inappropriate or not tolerated. Diet and other non pharmacological treatments (e.g. exercise, weight reduction) should be continued during therapy with TREDAPTIVE.
