The ESC Council on Cardiovascular Nursing and Allied Professions (CCNAP) is committed to professional growth of new investigators in cardiovascular nursing and allied professions. The number of PhD prepared cardiovascular nurses and allied professionals is growing in Europe, and the Nursing / Allied Professional Investigator Award aims to recognise the outstanding contribution of these investigators in understanding, preventing and treating cardiovascular diseases. This was the first award to be established in cardiovascular nursing and allied professions at a European level. It is in honour of one of the founders and first chair of the former ESC Working Group on Cardiovascular Nursing, Atie Immink.

To be eligible for the award, candidates must:

The abstract and the accompanying manuscript submitted for the Nursing / Allied Professional Investigator Award must not have been published, nor submitted for publication, prior to 1 April 2012.
Evaluation Criteria
A committee of experts in cardiovascular care representing the breadth of cardiovascular disease will judge the applications. Applications will be judged on:
- The scientific merit of the abstract.
- The quality and originality of the manuscript.
- The oral abstract presentation.
As the Nursing / Allied Professional Investigator Award is judged in part on the presentation of the finalist’s work at the Scientific Session, the finalist must be the presenter of his/her submission and no alternates or proxy will be allowed.
Prize
The Nursing / Allied Professional Investigator Award is an ESC award of 3,500 Euros and a plaque for the winner. The monetary prize is meant to provide some assistance towards attending the ESC Congress and to stimulate further research/post doctoral work. The prize will be awarded at the General Assembly of the ESC Council for Cardiovascular Nursing and Allied Professions at the annual ESC Congress 2012 in Munich.
The other finalists will each receive 500 Euros.
Each finalist will be designated in the Scientific Sessions Programme of the ESC Congress as a Nursing / Allied Professional Investigator Award finalist and the abstract will be published in a supplement to European Heart Journal. The winner will be expected to submit the full manuscript to the European Journal of Cardiovascular Nursing.
