The New Year saw an increase in the number of submissions, from 639 in 2009, to close to 800 projected for 2010. Emphasis has been placed on trying to increase the turn-around times of submissions. For instance, the time taken to make the first decision on submissions has decreased from 41 days last year, to 18 days currently.
Most importantly, the Impact Factor has increased from 3.4 in 2009, to 3.7 now, and this is not only the highest ever for the Journal, but it is also higher than the 2 directly competing journals, making the EJHF the highest ranked heart failure Journal in the world. The goal is to improve further all these parameters during the next 5 years.
The Impact Factor (IF) reflects the good work of the former editor-in-chief Karl Swedberg and provides an excellent source of motivation for the new team until the first IF solely attributable to them in 2012. The efforts and dynamism of the new editorial office would indicate that not only the IF, but the journal itself, is set to go from strength-to-strength in the future.
