EHRA Summit: 22-23 March 2010

E-health and personalised health care in arrhythmias in Sophia Antipolis

EHRA is taking a new step towards e-health and to shed a new light on the future of Arrhythmia

The annual Summit of the European Heart Rhythm Association ( EHRA ) on e-health and personalised health care in arrhythmias took place at the European Heart House in Sophia Antipolis on 22-23 March 2010. It further reinforced an existing discussion platform with the Working Groups in Electrophysiology and Cardiac Pacing and / or National Societies. The summit aimed not only at productive discussion and valuable feedback to guide the EHRA activities, but also to weave stronger links to efficiently work together. This step is critical for EHRA to reflect the needs of its members in its activities.

 EHRA Summit 2010: Future prospects

This two-day Summit on "e-health and personalised health care in arrhythmias" had the ambitious aim to raise discussions around new technologies and bring into focus Cardiology as indissociable from  "E-Health" in the future.
More precisely the Summit focused on topics such as:

 Prof. C. Wolpert

  • Critical issues in e-health Adoption
  • Telemonitoring in arrhythmias and Cardiac Rhythm Management (CRM ) devices which gave the working group representatives from France, Germany, Finland and Italy to share their experience
  • The development of e-health in the field of cardiovascular medicine
  • Cardiac Rhythm Management (CRM ) Devices and Telemonitoring

The breakout sessions on the second day split the attendees into 3 Task Forces to go further into discussions and stress the importance of Telenursing, Telemonitoring and Telecare for the future.

EHRA Summit 2010: Another successful meeting

This year’s topic on "e-health and personalised health care in arrhythmias" had a tremendous impact on the attendees (read take home messages below) and certainly sowed the seed for a new era.

C.Blomström Lundqvist, A. Auricchio

EHRA has then fulfilled its goal and contributed once again to "improve the quality of life of the European population by reducing the impact of cardiac arrhythmias and reduce sudden cardiac death".

Take home messages : "I love my EHRA !"

Most of the comments that were collected from the survey that the EHRA Team sent after the Summit, reflects the awareness that E-Health medecine opens new perspectives for patients and that actions has to be taken to make reality comes true.

Below you will find a few comments collected from the survey sent to all attendees after the Summit:

Multidisciplinary research is the future for research on rhythm and disrhythm.

That it is perfectly possible to fill two days with one rather specific topic and that this nevertheless provides exiting and very relevant insights.

E-health will become more and more important in future.

IT and Health Care Professionals need to work even closer together.

The future of medicine is through telemedicine. But there are still many difficulties to overcome to make telemedicine a reality of everyday life.

That interaction between engineers, legal people and clinicians is a necessary means of communication to improve patient care.

I love my EHRA!

This year very interesting topic was e-health that needs to be applied in my country and region in the future.

It is e-health era in front of us.

Both the usefulness and the complexity of e-health and telemonitoring: the technology advances, but our health care systems lag behind in how best to organise care to take advantage of this. The evidence base still needs to be developed, and we need to thoughtfully address issues of reimbursement, roles of various providers, and education/support for patients.

E-health is an opportunity to be exploited more widely.

EHRA has an opportunity to be the real European coordinator of technical, legislative and funding initiatives for heart rhythm related disorders.

E-health has an impressive future.

We can and should work together for improved patient outcome.
