"We're always on the lookout for new people to get actively involved within EHRA"

Dear EHRA Members,

During the last EHRA General Assembly held in Vienna on 3 September 2007, we presented an overview of the strategy and objectives planned for the next two years. These goals are based on the fruit of the work of my two predecessors.

L Kappenberger & S Priori Lukas Kappenberger (2004-2005), was key in the creation of the association and in consolidating the merge between the two Working Groups, and Silvia G. Priori’s (2005- 2007) business sense on how to organise and implement the various activities has been visionary. With the help of their boards and committees over these year, I am fortunate to inherit a scientifically sound and healthy association.

The main goal during this term will be to consolidate EHRA’s activities and be recognised as the European reference in cardiac arrhythmias and pacing. We aim to do this by covering the field of cardiac health care (including patients, physicians, allied professionals, administration and healthcare authorities) in Heart Rhythm disorders across Europe.

We will focus on four strategic areas and each elected member of the Board will be responsible for co-ordinating one activity:

  1. Education and Science: Pierre Jais
  2. Budget and Industry Relations: Josef Kauzner
  3. Membership and Communication: Panos Vardas
  4. International Relations: Silvia G. Priori

Our ultimate goal is to become a worldwide reference for members, patients, industry, education, and others involved in the field of heart rhythm disorders.

In order to maintain continuity but encourage new ideas and initiatives, we have renewed some of our committee chairs and their members, with others staying on for one more term. Four Committee Chairs were changed (Congress Programme Chair, Accreditation, Scientific Initiatives and National Societies). The others have kindly accepted to continue to provide expertise to EHRA for two more years with the new and continuing members.

Finally, I would like to highlight that EHRA’s contribution and significance in its field is much in thanks to their members. We rely on you to contribute actively to the life of the association. If you are interested in a more dynamic role within EHRA, we are always looking for people. Ask how you can contribute to EHRA to help achieve its goals.
