Imaging is of great importance in the world of electrophysiology (EP) and arrhythmias. In fact, many of the new developments in the field of imaging are related to new developments in treatment strategies and technologies in the electrophysiology lab. Current ablation options and device procedures are neither without risk nor uniformly successful. At the same time, new treatment modalities and improvements to existing techniques using various imaging tools for ablation and devices are being proposed and clinically used at breath-taking speed.
The task of developing and creating new tools, as well as the information on how best to use it for high quality electrophysiology and device management has to come from a joint effort between the different fields involved in their use. A thorough and careful combination of this emerging knowledge might help to define a successful, comprehensive strategy for imaging in invasive electrophysiology and devices, and to direct further research programmes.
At this Policy Conference, we will bring together for the first time, international experts in electrophysiology, devices, imaging and radiology, with a stimulating agenda and discussions that promise to be both dynamic and constructive. Industry representatives will also bring their expertise to these discussions.
The objective of this Policy Conference is first to define the state of the art on the use of cardiac imaging in interventional electrophysiology and devices, and then to address key issues such as Indications, Technique and Personnel, Reimbursement, Educational and Training Activities for the use of imaging in interventional electrophysiology, including implantable device and catheter ablation.
We aim to publish a document based on the outcomes of the meeting.
The document will be written by a writing group, which will use the information received from documents and results of the policy conference. An expert committee, outlined on the original publication, will review the document prior to its publication.
