Why a Summit?

This Summit was created to ensure that EHRA’s concerns, activities and initiatives are shared amongst the member countries.
The objective is to make this meeting a discussion platform with National Societies and Working Groups in Arrhythmias in order to reflect on key activities, membership needs and share experiences.

Who came?

Based on the objectives, the European Heart Rhythm Association and the Presidents and Chairpersons of the Working Groups on Electrophysiology, Arrhythmias, Cardiac Pacing and Heart Rhythm of the ESC National Societies were invited. Board members & Committees Members of EHRA were invited to speak about their respective activities and evoke discussion on how they can combine efforts with national representatives.

When was it ?

The first edition of the EHRA Summit took place in Sophia Antipolis (France), on Monday 2 and Tuesday 3 April 2007.
It was an enormous success as 30 Working Groups participated, representing no less than 26 countries!

What were the topics discussed at the EHRA Summit?

The EHRA Summit was divided between presentations and panel discussions. Each topic generated lively exchanges such as “How to create a European Accreditation programme”
The Summit was also an ideal springboard for the association to share its initiatives and priorities with the participants: accreditation, training fellowship programmes, Europace Journal, and other educational events – all these key activities of EHRA were discussed in great depth. Quite a few brainstorming sessions concerning the future of Research in Arrhythmias (Institutions, industry, and networking needs), education and training standards took place.

The breakout sessions gave the opportunity for the Working group representatives to participate actively. These sessions were much enjoyed and the debates continued well beyond the session!

To conclude the EHRA leadership is happy that this first edition generated positive feeback. The EHRA Summit has clearly initiated a stronger relationship between EHRA and all represented Working groups in the field and has confirmed the desire for a close collaboration. The EHRA board thanks again all the participants for attending and playing an active part in the discussions and promises to follow up.
