8-10 June 2009 - Daily Arrhythmia and Device Practice
European Heart House, Sophia Antipolis (FR)

Concept of the course

  • case-based course: cases are presented by a faculty member and worked-out in interaction with the audience, focusing on both diagnostic and therapeutic aspects.
  • the cases are supplemented by short slide-presentations, highlighting some aspects and/or literature evidence. Two parallel projections facilitate this way of teaching. A switching board will be available so that each faculty’s PC/Mac can be directed to any of the 2 projectors.
  • there is a schedule (i.e. which topics will be addressed during the different half days), but the exact cases presented may vary, depending on what the faculty members feel as the main interest of the audience during the ongoing course. This means that there will be more cases available than will actually be presented.
  • the cases are available in a booklet for the attendees at the beginning of the meeting; the attendees can make notes during the course next to the slides in the booklet.
  •  interaction with the audience will be stimulated by voting. The results are shown anonymous.
  • apart from regular cases, also cases with a pacemaker/defibrillator programmer (coupled to a patient simulator) will be used. The screens of the programmer and patient simulator are projected. The simulator is universal, but it will be coupled to programmers and pacemakers/ICDs of different manufacturers. This universal approach is a unique setting in device education.

24-25 October 2008 - Pharmacological Approach to Arrhythmias Patients: from mechanisms to practice
European Heart House, Sophia Antipolis (FR)

Content of the course

A case- and simulator-based tutorial about arrhythmia- and device-related problems for general cardiologists and electrophysiology fellows.Cases will reflect daily patients and allow discussion about their diagnostic and therapeutic approach. There will be real-time simulator-based problems to be solved by the audience through pacemaker or ICD reprogramming of different manufacturers. The faculty will provide ample evidence-based input, while the discussions concentrate on the practical management aspects that are most relevant to daily practice.

Antiarrhythmic therapy is complex and a potential source of risk and in the era of device therapy it is becoming difficult for the practicing electrophysiologists to find state of the art education and up to date information with regards to recent developments of pharmacological treatment of cardiac arrhythmias. Nonetheless, drugs, used either alone or in combination with non-pharmacological interventions, remain an essential tool in patient management. This is why EHRA invites you to participate in this new event where leading scientists and clinicians will provide lectures covering the most recent developments in this field.
